Good graphics, interesting mechanics/gameplay, very few ads
No significant shortcomings
Sometimes it seems like I can’t get through a day without playing a Ketchapp game. (Seriously, how do they make so many!?) I’ve been pretty hard on them lately, and for good reason. Cloud Path for Android is an example of how their quality control just seems to be way out of hand. It’s a fairly interesting endless runner that has very few ads, which is quite surprising when contrasted with some of their ad-riddled games.
This game, like many of their others, is quite simple. You have a character that can only walk along one path. Tapping on the right side of the screen will make your character walk forward, and tapping on the left side of the screen will make the character jump forward. This is important because if you walk into the side of a platform then you’ll have to start your endless journey all over.
Maybe that sounds a little too simple for you though. Well, don’t worry. As you make your way along the path, the ground behind you falls down into oblivion. That means you won’t be able to just hang out and patiently think about whether you should be walking or jumping. Progressing further into the game means the ground behind you starts falling at a faster pace, so you end up having very little time to assess the situation. The difficulty becomes compounded by the fact that you can only see a few blocks in front of you because the path is still being built as well.
Of course, since this is an endless runner, there are plenty of rewards to be found. As you play through the game, you’ll collect coins that you’ll use to purchase new skins. I think I ended up unlocking a cat and a pig. This game handles rewards in a way that’s a bit different from other games. Rather than having them all cost the same price, your first reward is really cheap, and they get more expensive as you go. I’m never a fan of this method because typically, the longer you play the game, the less excited you’re going to be about having to play even more for the next unlock. It doesn’t incentivize the player to keep playing the same way some developers seem to think it does, hence why most have done away with it.
All in all, Cloud Path was a fairly fun endless runner. It’s got a fun aesthetic, cute characters, and the gameplay is legitimately fun. The biggest surprise was the lack of ads. I saw maybe a handful in the time that I played.
