A great arcade platformer

Good graphics, simple controls, good level design
Frustrating gameplay, some jumps aren’t forgiving
It’s been awhile since I’ve played a good endless runner that captured my attention but Mr Jimmy Jump The Great Rescue for Android really did the trick for me. It has a great aesthetic, good level designs, and fun jumping mechanics that come together to create a pretty excellent arcade platformer.
There are a lot of endless runner mechanics here but the game is actually broken into pre-made levels. Each level has its own environment that really helps breath some life into an otherwise repetitive game. The level design is also really good due to the fact that it’s not procedurally generated. I always find myself having a lot more fun in games like this since the levels are actually designed well.
Traversing the landscape is automatic but the jumping is left up to the player. Jumping is sensitive to how long you hold your tap. Simply tapping the screen makes the character initiate a short jump, but the longer you hold the higher you jump. Completing each level requires the player to not only successfully land jumps but also jump and avoid other obstacles.
Unfortunately there is no unlock system and some of the jumps have to be executed almost perfectly in order to actually clear them. This can lead to some frustrating moments since the jumps aren’t always forgiving.
Despite its name, Mr Jimmy Jump The Great Rescue is actually a really great arcade runner. It’s got great level design and refreshing environments that really roped me in. There are definitely some frustrating mechanics, as expected, but it’s not as big of a wall as a typical endless runner might throw up.
