Review Avast Battery Saver

Jay Feldman
7.3Good
Lots of settings, interesting functionality, simple interface
Almost useless, weak functionality, not powerful enough
Avast Battery Saver for Android purports to help you take control of your battery's longevity by offering a few simple ways to conserve power. Set custom energy profiles for home, work, day night and more. This one is decent but arguably useless.
Avast Battery Saver displays in portrait and opens to a very modern and inviting interface featuring a nice battery graphic that shows your current charge status, a numerical percentage, and an estimate of hours remaining. Right off the top, this information is utterly useless, because right now, it estimates that I have 26 hours left on my battery, which is a complete crock, because the minute I open an app, that number will change dramatically. Being a heavy user of both the Galaxy S6 And the iPhone 6 Plus, I get asked a lot what the main differences are, and it's simple, better battery life on the iPhone, and more interface customization options with Android. Which is just a nice way of saying that battery life sucks on virtually all Android gizmos I've used, and that's coming from someone who considers himself an Android guy, not an iFan. In short, I'm of the mind that all of these battery saving apps are an utter shill. They don't work and do virtually nothing but offer a placebo.
Taking this app at face value, I would toss out all the Smart Profiles that purport to optimize your battery life. Sure, they may earn you a little extra juice out of a charge, but we're talking a small boost at best. The best this app has to offer comes under the App Consumption tab, which offers numerical values for all the battery hog apps and system functions on your gizmo; knowing that will help you identify battery hogs and eliminate or limit their use. The rest of the app is a waste of your valuable time.
Avast Battery Saver is decent if you like to occupy yourself with pointless activities. If you want to save your battery, never use bluetooth, because it's a shoddy technology that consumes too much power, turn off GPS location services when not needed, and never ever play graphic intensive games; there, I just did as much to save your battery as any app like this ever could.
