Unique program for solving mathematical equations

Instant decision examples, functions quickly, simple design
No significant shortcomings
PhotoMath for Android lets you instantly scan maths problems, and gives you not only the solution, but the calculation steps involved. You can do this sort of thing already with tools like WolframAlpha; but typing in the problem can be a real pain. Let's face it; we'd all like to be better at maths, and sometimes you come across a problem that you just can't really figure out. Being able to just point your phone at to get some insight could be a godsend. It's all very well to learn by doing; but if there's no one around to explain something to you; you might need this.
PhotoMath is great for problems like simultaneous equations, quadratic equations, trigonometry and algebra. But (just like me unfortunately!) it kinda sucks at calculus and differential equations. At least for the time being, it can't really handle them. For that kind of thing, you might try WolframAlpha, proprietary software like Mathematica, or maybe eve learning how to solve your equations properly by yourself!
It can't handle handwritten equations at the moment either; but it works just as well whether you're pointing your phone at a problem on another screen, or printed on paper. I wouldn't rely on it, but unless you're really confident, you might as well have this on your device. You never know when you might need it.
An amazing photo app that solves math equations!

Take photos of math problems and it solves them for you, solutions are provided almost instantly, breaks down how each problem is solved so you can see it step-by-step
The camera can be a little figdety, only solves simpler problems at the moment
It’s very rare that an app comes along and completely wows me, but that’s exactly what happened with PhotoMath for Android. It’s an app that does all of your math homework for you! All you have to do is be able to take a picture of the problems.
There are several things to really enjoy about this app, but the most impressive feature is the fact that you can literally take pictures of a math problem and the app will solve the problem for you… within reason, of course. I started off with a simple addition problem and after a few tries the camera finally focused in just the right spot and the solution to the problem popped up at the bottom of the screen. Awesome!
If you click on the solution it will actually expand the solution so that you can see step-by-step how the problem is actually solved, which is the second most awesome thing about this app. No more looking through your textbook and trying to figure out exactly what the heck the book is telling you because here is a true step-by-step breakdown of the problem.
Next I tried multiplication and subtraction and after I figured out the camera I didn’t have any issues getting it to pick up the problems and solving them almost instantly. Then I pulled up a algebraic expression and tried the same thing and it actually worked! Now, this is about the extent of the app in its current form. It can solve some pretty simple algebra problems, but don’t expect it to help you solve differential equations or anything like that. The developers have said they’ll be implementing more advanced problem solving the the future, so I’ll be pretty excited to see what’s in store.
PhotoMath pretty much delivers exactly what it says it’s going to do, which is incredibly impressive. The camera can be fidgety and you never really know what problems it will be able to solve and which ones will stump it. But I think it’s a really great proof of concept that will evolve into something pretty great in the future.
