Review Photo Collage - InstaMag

Brandon Girod
8.2Excellent
Easy to use, lots of options are available, good looking designs
Some features are hidden, there should be a quick tutorial when you first open each template
Smartphones have basically paved the way to giving us an incredibly easy way to document every part of our lives and many people do. I wasn’t one of these people until I had kids, but it’s great to see developers give people ways to almost automate this process. That’s what Instamag for Android does. It takes a collection of photos you choose and automatically creates a really cool “magazine” out of the pictures you chose.
Now, this isn’t a typical magazine you might be thinking of. The better way to think about it would be a photo collage. That’s because everything is basically copy and pasted into a pre-designed template and it’s all there on one page.
To my surprise, I found most of the templates to be entirely usable. Most apps like this have me rolling my eyes at just how gaudy and tacky they can be, but here you can change things like the background color, the width of the borders, you can crop pictures, and really change almost everything you might want to. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to figure out how to rearrange photos in any of my magazines.
There are some other features included in the app that are a bit cringe worthy, however. For instance, there is a “manga” filter that will take a photo and make it look like a picture you might find inside or on the cover of a manga. Definitely not my cup of tea.
Instamag’s greatest strengths are how easy it is to use and how well everything is designed. You can customize a lot of the templates, but I honestly found them to be good enough on their own.
