Review Slugterra: Slug it Out!
A very unique match three RPG game

Features plenty of slugs to collect and master, gameplay mechanics are dynamic and interesting
The art style feels a little dated, the tutorial over explains itself
Video games have this really cool way of making something as uncool as slugs seem slightly cooler. Slugterra: Slug it Out! for Android is like match three with Pokemon if, you know, Pokemon were slugs instead. Yeah, I know, not as cool. But give the game a chance you might find that there’s more here than you initially give the game credit for.
So the entire objective is that you’re this guy who runs around with slugs that have special powers. Each slug is tied to a piece of the match three board that needs to be matched in order to activate it. There are three tiers to each power and the more pieces you match, the faster you can activate your power. You’ll also have the ability to match laser pistol pieces so you can attack with that and pieces that will allow you to heal up as well.
All matches are played out in real time, which is my favorite part. That means you can sit there and keep matching and matching until your opponent is dead, and that’s exactly what you want to do. You don’t even want to give your opponent a chance to breath.
As you play you’ll get access to more slugs that are more powerful. You can only use 4 slugs at any one time, so you’ll want to make sure that you’ve got your team picked out in the very beginning.
Slugterra: Slug it Out! really kind of suffers in the looks department and it does the game a heavy disservice. It almost looks like a knockoff even though it’s not. I think the game would have done way better if they had upped how the game looked because the gameplay itself is really fun and it’s one of the most engaging match three games I’ve played in a while.
