Interesting functionality, simple design
Old fashioned design, internet connection required, is lagging
Imagine for Instagram for Android is basically an Instagram replacement app, offering a different user interface and all of the same basic functionality of its originator. This one doesn’t offer much over the original Instagram app, but it functions well enough.
Imagine for Instagram presents in both portrait and landscape, which is perhaps the only reason to use this app over the official one. But okay, perhaps you're a landscape purist; I get that. The app actually looks and functions a lot like Instagram, and opens to display your feed in a vertically scrolling interface, populated with your posts, and a small Like and Comments readout just below the thumbnails. Tapping on any of the entries brings up the full post, user comments and Likes tally. There's a menu button on the top left that opens a side panel with selections like, Feed, Profile, Activity, Likes, Nearby and What's Hot.
The app functions nicely throughout, with only nominal hangs as pages loaded. The What's Hot page loads a grid of thumbnails that you can scroll through vertically, opening to show the full post. There's also a search bar along the top where you can enter any custom search string you like. And naturally, you will have to log into Instagram to make use of this app.
Imagine for Instagram is basically just an alternative to Instagram that offers little over the original app, but if there's a reason you don't like the original, or simply want an all landscape option, then this one is a viable alternative.
