Review Peak – Brain Games & Training

Brandon Girod
8.9Excellent
Progression is charted out on easy to read graphs, the presentation is outstanding, puzzles are engaging and fun
The subscription model is pricey, the puzzles are pretty short compared to similar apps
Some of the most popular ‘puzzle’ games grace the mobile platform have been games that tout themselves as brain ‘trainers’. They’re games that make promises to strengthen your memory or help boost your problem solving skills. Peak - Brain Training for Android is another colorful entry that boosters the ranks of games like these.
Brain trainers have always presented information in an easy to digest manner and this game is no different. It has multiple games that helps you train your mind, and as you progress through the game, it tracks your progress through well charted graphs that are easy for you to interpret.
This is actually my favorite part of the app, though. It compares everything you’ve done with your peers, so you can use that as either motivation or a bat to beat down your self esteem.
The puzzle games set themselves apart from the rest of the pack as well, too. As I was playing through the game, I found myself actually enjoying the puzzles rather than feeling like I was just sloshing through a chore so I could hurry up and see the end results.
Unfortunately, the game does require a subscription in order to keep all of the goodies, and for many people this is going to be a huge turn off.
Peak - Brain Training is a top contender for best brain trainers currently on the market. I really enjoyed the presentation and the games are entertaining as well as effective. If they could find a way to allow users to make a one-time purchase then it would be a great success.
