Review Block Force - Cops N Robbers
IAP driven voxel based FPS
Author: Ollie Green
Date: 25 May 2017, tested on Samsung GT-I9500 Galaxy S4
Quality 3D graphics, online multiplayer, exciting game play, quality physics
Difficult to play without in-app purchases
Minecraft has encouraged dozens of developers to take voxel based gameplay into their own hands, and Block Force - Cops N Robbers for Android is another game that follows this trend. Fortunately, the gameplay in this game isn't anywhere near as blocky as the graphics are.
This game is a shooter that only features an online multiplayer. You can connect to other matches and fight it out against other players online, across various different arenas and game modes. There is a 2-20 player limit per match, allowing you to find a game anywhere between nice and peaceful to absolutely hectic.
When you first start the game, you are only given a pistol and this can be a little overwhelming for new players, especially considering many players are already heavily equipped with snipers and shotguns. By killing others, you are awarded coins, and your coins can be spent on the main menu to get new guns and equipment. The fastest way to get coins is by spending on in-app purchases, or sharing the game to friends.
This kind of monetization tactic makes it incredibly pay-to-win, which is really disappointing considering the rest of the game is so fun. The gun mechanics are quite smooth and the level designs all bring a different experience to the table. For the most part, the game runs well on many devices, but you may start to struggle with lag as your game lobby starts to fill up with more players.
With Block Force - Cops N Robbers, you'll find a decent amount of competitive shooting, a wide range of weapons to use, and plenty of varying maps and stages. There is certainly a lot of fun to be had here, so long as you can deal with the over-the-top in-app purchases.
