Review Pocket Casts

Brandon Girod
Intuitive UI that looks great, playback controls are easy to access on the go, has a lot of powerful discovery tools
Does have an option to preview podcasts before subscribing
Podcasts are one of God’s gifts to the world. A bunch of interesting people get together and talk, in detail, about whatever it is that interests you. Pocket Cast for Android is a mobile app that gives you a simple, but efficient way of discovering, managing, and listening to just about any podcast you could possibly think of.
Discovering podcasts is made relatively easy from the get go. You can swipe to the right to open up the menu and select the “discover” option, which brings you to a component of the app that’s totally dedicated to helping you find new and interesting shows. It’s got a huge list of featured podcasts that feature a lot of great shows you’ve probably heard of. It also has a list of the top podcasts on the app, and what’s trending.
Once you find a podcast, all you have to do is click on the icon and you’re faced with a description and a subscribe button. It’s that easy. My only gripe is that there is no way to listen to the podcast before subscribing to it. If there is, it’s not intuitive to access.
Playback is really simple and it gives you the option to stream or download the mp3 right off the bat. Similar apps have automatically defaulted to one or the other; which can be frustrating if they default to the opposite desired function.
Pocket Casts is my new favorite podcast manager. Not for any specific reasons, though. It’s well put together, has some powerful discovery features, and playback has identical options to other apps. I just personally like the look and feel of this app.
