Review Feedly: blog, news, RSS reader

Brandon Girod
9.5Excellent
Beautifully designed UI, feeds are easy to manage, can find just about any site you throw at it
The app's design, while beautiful, favors form over function when it comes to displaying information
Feedly for Android has always been one of the most beautiful and feature-rich RSS type app on the platform. Over the years the developers have had plenty of time to perfect the formula, and now it’s probably one of the best ways to keep track of all your favorite websites.
The idea behind the app is easy enough. Like an RSS feeder, it wants to pull news articles from all your favorite sites and create a central hub for you to read them under. And it’s really good at doing that. It easily lets you add the content from entire sites simply by searching for them. I don’t subscribe to any particularly obscure sites, but I was able to find just about everyone that I enjoy following on a daily basis.
This leads up to the way it presents the information to you. When you first open the app, you’re presented with your home screen, which is like an aggregated collection of all the top stories from every category you’ve created. It usually has one headlining story with a beautiful image, along with information from the article that’s easy to digest at a quick glance. It shows you where it’s from, when it was posted, the headline, and the category you’ve tagged it as.
Tagging things is really simple, and it even has the ability to mark things so you can read them later. This is probably one of the best features of the app. That and and all of the built-in sharing functionality. You can send a tweet about an article straight from the app with one button, and there are a ton of other apps it communicates very well with.
Feedly is one of the most popular RSS readers on the platform, and with good reason too. It’s well designed, full of powerful features, and is easy to use.
