Slow shipping, seems scammy
Geek- Smarter Shopping for Android is a shopping app that caters to the geek; as if you couldn’t tell by the name of the app. Inside the app you can buy a variety of geek things like flashlights, phone covers, headphones, ski masks, batteries, and other things. All of these items are heavily discounted, and there are some good deals in the app; but all seam to come with the basic caveat that you are dealing with this app’s shop. In some ways, the app promises a lot. But as with all things, there is some type of catch. That means that shipping for most items won’t be as quick as something like Amazon. It’s a great app for users who want to save some money, but it ends up taking much longer for the product to arrive.
My feed on Geek was covered with a lot of Geeky items, although most weren’t that interesting to me personally. For some reason a lot of the items were ski masks and flashlights. I suppose these are things that might be in high demand, given the season. I was disappointed that there weren’t more game deals, or unique things offered; instead of just basic things heavily discounted. A lot of the things on the list were things I could buy, but not necessarily things I need. For example, I did find a cool green laser on sale that had a picture of its laser lighting a match on fire. For all of these products you can also see user reviews, which is handy. While the laser did have good reviews, I doubt a fifteen dollar lase has that sort of power (it was around 7 dollars with the sale).
Not everything on Geek is useless however, and it might just require your digging around, which is somewhat unfortunate. The category system on the app needs work as you have to keep swiping until you find the category that you want. I swiped nearly twenty times but still couldn’t find a “game” category where game sales were to be had. I did find the phone section that had the great neo hybrid case for the iPhone 6 on sale. But again, the shipping said 6-12 days, which is a bit of a drag.
Geek is a good app for finding some niche items or some stocking stuffers. I wouldn’t count on the app for being my best resource for finding deals, but that is because shipping is an important factor to me.
