Good UI, simple but fun
Just another dice game
Dice with Buddies for Android is a fun and simple dice game that lets you play with friends a-la “Words with Friends” fashion. That is, you pick your friends from Facebook, or you can find some random person to play with. The game revolves around rolling dice and filling out cards in order to achieve a high amount of points. I haven’t played a game like Dice with Buddies on mobile form before, so the game felt remarkably simple and refreshing. I also didn’t encounter any glaring annoyances like ads that proliferate so many mobile online and free games.
You roll dice and fill out cards that have certain requirements. For example, there are slots for full house, multiple pairings, and even a chance slot that simply adds up all your dice and gives you the sum. You have 5 dice, and you roll them initially to see what you get. From there, you strategize to pick the best combination and then roll the rest. Say you have a 2,3,4,5 and an extra 2, you might roll the extra 2, two times to try to get a straight. I like the way it's so easy to roll in the game as well. You simply tap what you want to keep (it might have been more intuitive to tap what you didn’t want) and then the rest get rolled for a limit of two times. Each time you need to decide if you should make a bigger risk, or perhaps a safe bet, for each respective pay out.
I also like that there is a choice to simply play with yourself (or a partner on the same phone). It works quite quickly, but it does seem less fun not being able to directly see what types of rolls they are getting if they are holding the device (but then again that's how it works in the online mode).
Dice with Buddies is a great dice game with multiple social components that work well.
