Review Poweramp

Jay Feldman
9.0Excellent
Powerful functionality, nice interface, stylish design
Very complex, lags a bit
Poweramp for Android is a powerful music player with a host of features that should keep you busy while listening to your jam.
Poweramp is a very chic and modern music player. It will scan your folders upon first install to find all the music you have available. The scans complete fairly quickly but speeds will vary, naturally, depending on the size of your music library. The app wisely includes tips and suggestions on how to best make use of all the app has to offer. There’s a lot going on here, so I suggest you keep the tips active at first until you familiarize yourself with the interface. Tips can easily be deactivated and reactivated, as you need.
The interface is nicely laid out. I like the slick, minimalist feel they achieved. Given all the features and possibilities, the app layout could have easily been bogged down and cluttered. However they did a nice job of compartmentalizing everything into a neat and usable design.
You can arrange your music in all the usual ways; by genre, artist, alphabetically, etc. But for me, the best method of organization is by folder, and not every music player offers this form of navigation. My music collection is kind of all over the map, and not everything I have digitized can be accessed via playlist, genre or artist. Folder view is simply my best option, so whenever I see a player that offers folder navigation, I take notice.
There are a host of advanced features here, like equalizer and mixing buttons for volume, bass, etc. This app is like having your own component stereo in your Android. The app is fully functional for 14 days, and then requires a purchase to continue. This free version does feature push ads, and yes, they do make the app hang and respond sluggishly. I assume all this will be cleared up in the paid version when the ads are removed.
Poweramp is one of the better music apps I've tried, particularly because of all the advanced tweaks and folder view ability. There’s also a bunch of different themes available for download and most appear to be free. The app itself also comes with 4 different color schemes. This is a very good music app. Not the best, but very worthy.

I just installed Poweramp onto my Galaxy S5 and only some of my .wma files play. I checked the properties of some that played and some that did not, and they appear to be the same. I believe that when I ripped my CDs, I chose the lossless high quality setting. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank you
