Review Path

Kevin Vadala
6.5Good
Good friendly design, simple, intuitive interface
Pointless without large amount of friends
Path for Android is another mobile attempt at creating a social networking platform. In the app, you have the usual stuff like status updates, picture uploads, and friend invites. It’s all painted over with red to emphasize it’s branding. Blue is a lot different than red remember (Facebook).
Path, like many platforms, is what your friends make of it. There isn’t anything to do on it without friends (well, you can customize your profile filter with Instagram-like filters). Its not like another app I just reviewed, Hello Talk, where you meet other members with the community and make friends. Instead, you search your contacts, email contacts, and Twitter account to find previous friends you already have. The difficult thing is that none of my friends use Path and its very hard to get people to migrate to new social platforms.
So the game that Path has to play is making their app as user friendly as possible. And for the most part, it is. It’s so simple that without anyone to talk to, it was very hard for me to get a solid understanding of it. Sure I can see its cool functions like emoticons, the filters, connectability to other networks, and the ability to share your viewing content, but none of that really amounts to much. Now, what makes Path unique? I’m not too sure to be honest. It just seems like another attempt at becoming a viral social network that I’m sure some users will utilize in close-knit groups; but that seems the most that it will accomplish. And maybe that’s okay.
Path is a social app that integrates itself heavily into the mobile platform with its intuitive interface and solid features. I couldn’t help but feel that it was a little to easy and not that useful. There isn’t anything in Path that isn’t in other social platform applications. Perhaps when you install the Path message application, it will make it more powerful, but that's not part of the package of Path. Messaging is in another app, so take that into account.
