Facebook Groups for Android is a new app from Facebook that now lets you take part in your Facebook groups, or quickly create new groups and edit them, invite new members etc. This follows a trend of breaking the Facebook mobile experience into different apps; that started with Pages, then the enforced use of Facebook messenger, and now this Groups app.
It's pretty likely that you're already in a few Facebook groups. They can be handy for keeping posts and discussion specific to particular set of people, and can even be a good way of finding people near you with similar interests. And this app can also suggest new groups for you; based on whatever Facebook knows about your location and interests.
Groups can be a bit of a pain to access in both the desktop and mobile versions of Facebook. The fact that people still go through the steps of looking through the sidebar to post in specific groups demonstrates just how important the feature is to people. With the new app, Groups could really become a key way of asking questions to a specific circle of people, or people with similar interests. One thing you can't do in the app at the moment is ask or respond to poll questions
But still: 4 different possible apps to use Facebook on mobile devices seems over the top. Of course, you don't need to use all of these apps. The Pages and Groups apps will appeal to people who control or use a lot of these. The difference between Pages and Groups are pretty: Pages having just a few editors, with other people able to follow the page by liking it; Groups being based on membership. But there's enough similarity between them, and the things you typically do in them, that they could easily be integrated into one app.
