2048++ for Android is a 2048 clone with a redesigned look. It has a variety of different modes that slightly spice up the original game, but mostly they just look different and play the same. The original mode deals in 2s, while some of the other modes go for threes, or different variations of numbers and additions. Fans of the original 2048 will find everything they like here, and perhaps a bit more.
It never really feels like a good thing when an app gets ripped off. This seems to be the case with 2048++, as the maker isn’t the same as the original hit on the play store. That isn’t to say that the game hasn’t been around before then, as it most likely has in some form. In that sense, the 2048 craze feels similar to Flappy Bird, and 2048++ would be a polished and neat looking Flappy Bird.
I haven’t played 2048 very much, and thats one reason I wanted to review this app so I could go into it with a fresh perspective. I have tried the initial app, but I didn’t give it enough time to really see how it could be addicting. This time around, I understood and felt the pull of the game to give things another try.
I feel like most people have played 2048 by now, but I’ll explain why its fun and addicting. Mashing up numbers together and seeing them create solutions is quite fun. Then, you have a few key elements on the board that represent higher numbers and essentially higher payoffs. A lot of the game just kind of feels like frantic pushing and pulling, but the strategy comes into play in deciding how you might combine numbers to combine that end product with another product. There is also the factor that the game taunts you into getting the legendary 2048 end result which is a funny but enticing idea.
2048++ doesn’t reinvent the formula but it does redesign it. There are a few other game modes that play very similarly or represent different shapes which might prove refreshing enough for others to give the addicting game another look through.
