Build your kingdom and tax peasants

Quality sound, quality graphics, interesting game play, responsive controls
Very common, animation is a bit laggy, dependence on in-app purchases
Townsmen for Android offers familiar style play with pricey in app purchases. The game is done well, but is ultimately just a retread with little inspiration.
Townsmen comes from a very popular and familiar style game genre. This one follows the same tact of build this, evolve that and watch your village grow. The game environment is kind of a medieval fantasy landscape. You are charged with protecting your castle, building structures, food stores, supply houses and keeping the peasants happy so you can tax them heavily; most of that sounded like fun, but the last part strikes a little close to reality.
The game is completely competent in the world it presents. The graphics are detailed and interesting. And the game has excellent zoom controls, so you at least have the satisfaction of being able to get close to the environment you’re creating. I just wish there were something unique or innovative here. Most of these games have a cookie cutter mentality to them and it’s hard to tell one from the next. If you've already spent time and money building up one fantasy kingdom, then I see little here to encourage abandoning all that just to start over and do the exact same thing here.
The animation is a bit crude and underdeveloped. And the play uses the typical tact of impatience to encourage purchases. You can wait for your structures to be built, or pay to have them materialize instantly. Either way, there's not much else to do, which is kind of a catch 22 with games line this.
Townsmen will be hugely satisfying if this style of game is your passion. But I see little intrigue or imagination. Its decent, just not memorable. If you're going to ask players for money, then at least sell them something original.
A medieval town builder with retro graphics

Realistic production chains, multiple game modes
Features in-app purchases, low quality graphics, highly intrusive ads in the free version
Townsmen for Android is a town building simulator that has players building up what will soon be one of the greatest medieval metropolises in the world. The game offers multiple game modes, including scenarios and sandbox. 2D graphics give the game a retro feeling, but feel out of date when looking at some other games available on the market.
Players must carefully plan out the development of their cities as resources will be tight at the start of the game. Buildings take time in order to be completed, a process that can be avoided by investing special currency. Extensive and realistic production chains are required in order to fulfill the growing needs of the cities and complete quest objectives in some scenarios.
Managing the city involves careful taxation of the villagers and repairing buildings that have been damaged by the passage of time. Ensuring that sufficient firemen are available to cover all possible needs is one of the few things that will keep the town running in optimum condition. Villagers themselves will have their own wishes and desires that must be met in order to increase the overall happiness of the town.
Overall Townsmen offers some interesting gameplay elements and a few interesting production chains. After playing through the free version to get the feel of the game, it may be worth it to spring for the extra few dollars to remove the ads, or they will continue to take almost half of the screen in the free version.
