Review Pocket Wizard

Kevin Vadala
Funny spells, addicting
Pocket Wizard: Magic Fantasy for Android is a small but addicting game where you control a little magician girl who never ever stops running into enemies. You have a magic bubble around you that protects you from harm, and when you tap you send out butterflies to repel attackers.
Pocket Wizard is a game that has ads on it. Sometimes they pop up when you are trying to upgrade your stuff, and ads are also stuck on the bottom of the screen as well. Yet the game doesn’t feel like it’s based on these microtransactions. The grindy elements of the game simply feel like part of the game, and for a small price of 1 dollars and a few cents, you can have the game without ads and without any other inconveniences.
Pocket Wizard doesn’t have hidden complexities, and that’s its greatest strength. It’s simply a game where you upgrade your equipment and destroy hordes of monsters. The fun comes with getting new upgrades and seeing them wreak havoc, and simply managing your money. There are a few ways you can do this. Either spend all of your money on magic and quickly dispatch foes, invest into buildings that give you more money over time, or you can get more money per each enemy you kill. Finding out which strategy you want is fun, and it doesn’t take too long before you start getting to chose a lot of upgrades. Your character even changes her looks if you upgrade her wands, which is a cool touch.
Pocket Wizard is a good game to play on mobile devices. The controls are virtually non existent, as they only consist of tapping the screen to shoot out butterflies. The faster you tap the faster you can attack, even though there does seem to be a cap on your tap rate. I can see myself playing this game with one hand as I wait on a bus, or something similar. It has cute graphics and a funny charm, so it should strike a chord with most ages.
