Review Action of Mayday: Zombie World

6.4Good
Some funny zombies
No movement mechanics, aggresive payment system, ads
Action of Mayday:Zombie World for Android is a zombie shooting game that is on-rails. That means you can’t freely move and the shooting mechanic in the game makes you feel like a turret and less like an actual person. The game borrows style from games like Minecraft, as there are blocky characters and extremely cartoony graphics.
Action of Mayday doesn’t feel like a very fun game. Its a classic example of a game that the developers paid more attention to the micro transactions and economy of the game than the actual gameplay itself. There are a ton of guns to buy, and the game itself even encourages you to try out guns, only to promote them afterwards as a sale price. Sometimes microtransactions can feel okay, but when the game blatantly asks you if you want to spend money like this, it always feels insulting. I tried out a gun, and it didn’t really look that cool or feel that different besides it being stronger and it’s ability to shoot faster. You think that is worth my money?
To call the shooting in the game repetitive would be a severe understatement. You simply rotate around on your limited viewing angle with controls that feel sticky and unrefined. Its hard to line up your gun correctly, and while head shots can provide for some sort of entertainment, its hard to really enjoy the feeling when you are just staring at blurry zombie heads that don’t look scary, funny, or draw any positive emotion from me. The game actually has audio cues like buzzing to let you know a zombie is attacking you. It’s like they expected you to have problems turning around. The zombies look like something created in MS paint. With that said, there are some funny zombies running around like rabbit zombies or dog zombies that mix things up a little bit.
Action of Mayday doesn’t feel polished or “good” on any fronts. The laughable attempt at a story is so simplified and cliche it hurts. The scenery doesn’t change much for the first few levels and make the stale combat stand out even more. There are better zombie games on the app store, and much better experiences elsewhere.
