Plenty of heroes to collect, the chance to explore middle earth
Repetitive levels, almost no gameplay
Explore Middle Earth and walk paths through famous locations from the book and the famous trilogy. Lord of the Rings: Legends is mostly a 2D and menu based game; it is not what you would expect when reading the title.
The game has some of the most amazing artwork, with fitting 2D recreations of famous and new heroes from the books and movies, if only the combat moves would have been as faithful to the movies, rather than simply moving the characters forward and applying a slight effect to simulate damage. Environments are beautiful, yet often become repetitive as they are re-used at many points throughout the game.
The gameplay is rather on the dull side. The player moves from point to point through the linear maps by tapping on the move button. At every stop he is either presented with currency, a random hero or an encounter with enemies. All battles are automatically resolved by having your heroes and the enemies taking turns attacking and triggering special abilities. Luckily it is possible to skip the battles as after seeing them a few times, users will completely loose interest. Creating the best party of adventurers, enhancing their heroes and discovering famous characters are the most interesting activities for the game.
Overall Lord of the Rings: Legends for Android is a decent tribute to the cultural phenomenon; however users searching for an action packed Lord of the Rings game on the platform should search elsewhere. As the name implies this game is mostly about exploration and forming a party of adventurers.
