LEGO® Star Wars™ Yoda II for Android is a game based on the Cartoon Network show 'The Yoda Chronicles', which in turn is a show based on a game, based on the Star Wars films. Wow...
Lego and Star Wars are a match made in heaven, and the 3D graphics in LEGO® Star Wars™ Yoda II won't disappoint. It's cool to see Lego models break up into their parts when you destroy something or die. But after the initial excitement of the coolness of it all, the game lets itself down on both gameplay and controls.
You can chose whether to play as the Jedi or the Sith, but it makes little difference. You'll be playing the same kind of levels, just with/against different characters and vehicles. In some levels you'll be running and jumping between platforms while fighting enemies with either a gun or a light sabre. Or you'll be falling down a very long tunnel trying to avoid objects and people firing at you. Or you'll be flying a fighter craft and firing at walkers. The levels are quite linear, and take a bit too long to finish, with a lack of real action. They aren't difficult exactly, but they're clumsy and unrewarding.
The controls are fiddly, with multiple buttons for moving, firing and jumping, that are quite unresponsive. Even in the falling games, where a simple tilt control would be all that's needed, you still need to control movement with the same small on-screen joystick.
LEGO® Star Wars™ Yoda II is free, and free of ads (though you may experience a subliminal urge to buy Lego Star Wars toys). It looks cool, but the fun wears off too quickly.
