Functions quickly, minimalist design
Non-elaborated interface, low-quality design
Cartoon Camera for Android is an easy to use camera app that instantly transforms your photographed subjects into pieces of pop art.
Cartoon Camera is very easy to use, and the results are anything but ordinary. Just launch your gizmo’s camera via this app, then toggle through an array of filter options to photograph your work of art. Choose from selections like, cartoon, pencil, sepia, glowing edges and eight others for a total of twelve cool shooting options. The filters render in real time, so you can see how your subjects will look with each filter choice. Once you find a look you’re happy with it, just take the shot with your camera and the pic will be saved to your gallery with all your other photos. Pretty cool.
The app’s interface needs some refinement. As it is, this app feels more like a beta than a finished product. All the buttons are kind of tiny and cramped together, and there’s really no menu interface to speak of. I like that just opening the app automatically launches the camera, making you ready to shoot goofy pics in an instant. However, I still think the app needs some sort of interface improvements. The filter capabilities are playful and fun; this app’s presentation should be the same in some respect. As it is, the control options are very minimalist and not all that easy to use. I kept hitting the wrong buttons just trying to cycle through all the filter options. I think it’s wise to keep things simple with an app like this, but all the more reason to make what little is onscreen present itself well.
Cartoon Camera is one of those apps that’s fun to have at your ready, but you’ll use it so seldom, you may forget it’s even there. It's good for the occasional chuckle.
