Review LokLok: Connected Lock Screen

Tariq Abdulla
Easy to find friends, original idea, convenient interface
Needs more creative features
LokLok for Android is a lockscreen, currently in beta testing, where you can draw little doodles, with or without a background photo. These doodles will then become the current lockscreen of not only your own gizmo, but also the gizmos of anybody else you have invited to be in that group. You can have multiple groups defined, and then you will be able to swipe through different screens. So you could have one for just you and your partner; and one for work buddies, for example.
LokLok is a really neat idea, and it is neat that you can choose (or take) a photo to use as the background, or have your doodles float above the device’s wallpaper. I can imagine using something like this to share some private messages with my spouse, or with my colleagues to share some important news about free doughnuts in the meeting room.
LokLok has some different brushtypes and colors available, but the way to select them wasn't instantly intuitive. It would be a lot easier to quickly create some funny lockscreens if there were more creative elements available: something a bit like LINE Stickers for example. Plus LokLok could use the ability to type a bit of text, rather than having to draw everything.
It’s cool how with LokLok you can erase part of the existing doodle, add new bits on to it. It’s a bit like virtual graffiti in that way. LokLok would probably work better on larger screens, with more space to be creative. It’s a neat idea, but at present it lacks security features. Somehow it seems like more effort than sending instant messages to a group, even though you can see the message as soon as you look at your phone. That’s partly because the history is deleted as soon as it is erased by someone. LokLok is unique, and good for a bit of fun, but not really useful.
