Review Scurvy Scallywags
Match-3 game with a super-addictive twist
Author: Enozia Vakil
Date: 10 Apr 2017, tested on HTC One X
Quality graphics, addictive game play
No significant shortcomings
Ahoy, pirate! Sitting there with your rusty hook and looking for some gold? Come aboard, let us sail to this unknown island-legends that is full of gold. You get the general idea, don’t you? Scurvy Scallywags is a musical match-3 game fraught with skulls, bottles, ships, loot, and gold.
Yes, I get it, when you read the term ‘match-3’ you definitely would presume it as another one of those games already available. But do not be mistaken, it isn’t just about matching 3 (or more) elements in the board and winning, it’s about survival too. Your own character (which you customize at the beginning of the game) is shown at one spot on the board and so does some nasty undead creatures. Each of the creatures have a certain attack level and so do you hence in order to have the upper end during a battle when you are next to each other you have to increase your attack level by matching swords on the screen.
Along with hundreds of different costumes to customize your character, you can also build ships provides certain advantages for bringing victory in your favor and buy powerups through gold for getting rid of undead on the board and getting hold of surprise boxes.
The gameplay is terrific and there are a lot of changing environments along the different islands you sail to keep you interested, all of which is accompanied by the pirate-ish music in the background. I know - heaven, right?
To sum it up, this game certainly has it all to keep you hooked to it and trust me, you won’t be leaving it soon once you start playing. To be honest, I completed 12 levels before starting to write this review. So my drawback on this game is the addictive gameplay. Very bad Scurvy Scallywags, very bad, you put my job at stake in here!
