Review Foursquare

Jay Feldman
7.4Good
Lots of settings, nice interface
Functionality forcibly split into Swarm app, functions slowly
Foursquare for Android is - or rather, was - a great way to stay connected with friends. Check-in at local destinations, see a live interactive map of friends and make connections.
Foursquare is one of the most popular local networking apps. It makes use of your GPS functionality to track your activities and share them with friends. So if you’re ever sitting around wondering what to do with yourself, this app will display a local map populated with the current location of your friends, and what they are doing. Sure, it can also be an effective stalking app, but if used responsibly, Foursquare is a great way to stay connected with friends and family.
For the most part, the app functions smoothly. As per usual, the GPS maps hang here and there. But there are a host of convenient features and the menus are easy to read and follow. The data here is quite exhaustive and results are displayed based on your current location. However, you can also easily search alternate locations by just entering the zip code, city or just pinch zoom the maps.
The biggest flaw this app possesses is their decision to essentially split the functionality in two. Foursquare has now branched off into Swarm, and a lot of users aren't happy with this new app being crammed down their throat. Talks of mutiny abound and to hear longtime users complain about it, this is the beginning of the end for Foursquare. I’m not so sure about that, but a lot of people are really pissed off.
Foursquare remains a highly functional networking app, however the decision to strip part of the original app’s functionality in order to claim dominance with a second, redundant app, might spell trouble.
