Review LINE
A multifaceted communication centerpiece
Author: Jay Feldman
Date: 25 Jun 2017, tested on ASUS Nexus 7 (2013)
Interesting functionality, minimalist design
Functions slowly, non-intuitive interface
Line for Android is an international calling and messaging app that boasts a host of features and silly tweaks that will cost you nearly as much as you love them.
Line is a little bit Skype, meets Hangouts, meets almost every communication feature you could want, all under one roof. You can make free video calls, voice calls and send instant messages. There’s also a bunch of cute ‘stickers’ that you can assign, send and share like emoticons, only better because they feel new and unexpected.
The interface is nice. It’s fairly minimalist, however a tad old fashioned. As a result, the multitude of options are cramped and buried within each other like nesting dolls. It’s difficult at first to remember where everything is and what it does, but that’s the price paid for a comprehensive, one stop communication app.
A lot of the stickers will cost you extra, as will various themes and packs. But the developers gotta earn a buck somehow. I did experience hangs navigating from one screen to the next; more annoying than serious glitch.
Line is a big commitment, but if you surrender to its world you may find this app a convenient, one-stop option for most all your communication needs. I think the app needs refinement and contemporizing, but it’s fully usable and could streamline your chatter quite nicely.
