Review Slashy Sushi

8.8Excellent
Banging tunes, fun gameplay mechanics, stylish artwork
Full screen ads, becomes redundant quickly
Reading through any of my previous reviews for Ketchapp games, you probably already know that I’m not a huge fan of the developer. However, there are a few occasions where they’ll put out a game that defies my relatively low expectations. Slashy Sushi for Android is a simple arcade game that I actually found to be pretty charming and a radical departure from the kind of games I’m used to seeing from Ketchapp.
This is a one-touch arcade game but it’s a little deeper than what you might find on its surface, though not overly so. Some of the game’s mechanics weren’t immediately apparent to me. For instance, the timer blends in very well with the background because it basically drops a shadow down from the top to the bottom. It also doesn’t count how far you get, so you’ll start the game, but not realize what exactly the goal is until you lose.
The game’s mechanics are where the game gets good, though. Depending on the food presented to you, you’ll have to do different things to prepare it. You need to tap sushi to cut it up, rub the screen to grate cheese, tap it multiple times to peel potatoes and so much more. It really helps that the game has a really good style and the music is great.
Overall, I was really surprised by Slashy Sushi. You’ll start the game off by seeing a full screen ad, but the rest of the ads were somewhat far and few between, at least by Ketchapp standards. I think this is a great arcade game that will keep kids and adults alike entertained.
