Minimalist graphics and animations, great level design
Difficulty plateaus quickly, no unlocks
If you’re looking for a new puzzle game that is more active then you’ll definitely want to give Symmetrica for Android at least a glance. This is a puzzle game that challenges you to focus, time your shots and take your time as you shoot blue, cone-shaped projectiles into circles as they both move around the screen.
When you first jump into the game, you’ll go through some really easy tutorial courses. They’ll explain some of the rules. Such as blue cones always shoot first. The first levels are brain-dead easy, but the game doesn’t hesitate throwing you some curve balls early on. Soon you’ll have to shoot two cones at the same time as they move in different patterns. And the paths the cones travel will become more complicated as they also begin spinning around. Even the circles will begin to move after some time.
The game is incredibly minimalistic in terms of art design. Backgrounds are dark with gradient, the spheres could be recreated in Microsoft Paint and, well, so could just about any asset in the game. The music fits the scene, too, which is fine because it allows for the gameplay to really shine. My only real qualm with the game is the lack of rewards and the awkward placement of the ads.
Overall, Symmetrica is a really great puzzle game that combines complicated gameplay with art design that doesn’t get in the way. The game knows what it’s doing right and it really highlights that. Gameplay isn’t frustrating and you can play at your own pace.
