Simple controls, thorough but short tutorial
Way too many ads, slow reward progression
In all of my time reviewing games, I’ve come to at least one conclusion: I’m really not great at rhythm based games, so take that into mind when reading this review. Monkey Rope for Android is an arcade game where you play as a monkey and swing from one rope to the next as you try and bypass several obstacles that are trying to knock you off your rope.
Initially, one of the things that I really liked about this game was its tutorial. The game shows you the timing of just about every one of its obstacles. So, if you paid attention to the tutorial and really took your time, you could theoretically perform really well right off the bat with this game. Unfortunately, even though I paid attention, I was still just really bad at this game.
The swinging parts are all really good, though. All of the controls were really spot on and there is really only one obstacle that I have trouble with. There is one that has two spinning boards and every time I come up to it, I just die. I can’t get the timing right. What’s cool, however, is that when you unlock new characters, the environment completely changes along with the obstacles you’re trying to bypass. The problem is that you need 200 coins to unlock a mystery box or you have to pay a buck for every new thing you unlock.
Monkey Rope is a pretty fun game and I would have probably enjoyed it a lot more if I was good at rhythm games.
