Review Vector 2

Brandon Girod
Great animation, cool environments, evolving gameplay
Poor level design, unintuitive ui
I think we can all agree that games don’t have enough parkour in them. Sure, we’ve got games like Assassin’s Creed, Dying Light and Mirror’s Edge, but there could be more! Vector 2 for Android is a fast-paced, parkour-themed runner that, for once, isn’t actually endless. Instead, you get real progression and bite-sized levels.
I love progression. To me, there is no worse feeling than spending an hour playing a game and not really having anything to show for it. Some people won’t agree. For others, it may be the experience or the fact that they’re getting better at something, but unless I’m actively beating someone, I don’t care. This game actually lets you beat the game. You get progression. The gameplay mechanics evolve over time so that levels can change and you can adapt to those changes.
Gameplay is fast-paced, but there were a few times where I experienced some stuttering, which isn’t great for a game like this. This is something I’d expect to run smoother than butter, but that’s not always the case. Level design could also be hit or miss. You won’t always be given the tools to surpass what you need. Part of the game’s evolution involves gearing up and learning new stunts to bypass new obstacles, which is great, but there shouldn’t be a manual fail state that needs to happen in order to progress.
Still, Vector 2 is a really good runner. It’s not endless, which means you can actually beat the game and you’ve always got something to look forward to. Plus, the animations are really, really good when everything is running smooth.
