Great controls, really fun platformer, colorful aesthetic
Has some performance issues
I wasn’t really expecting much from Super Phantom Cat for Android, but I was pleasantly blown away. For a free-to-play mobile platformer, this game rocks. It’s got a sweet aesthetic, really solid and responsive controls, and the story is actually kind of interesting because it’s simple but offers enough intrigue to string you along for a bit until you find out what exactly is going on.
This is one of the few mobile platformers where the controls felt really smooth and really good. Playing on touchscreen with virtual buttons isn’t ideal for games like this, but after a while I could barely remember that I was playing on a phone, aside from the obvious fact that I’m, you know, staring at the phone.
The aesthetics are really cool. They’ve got a simple, minimalistic feel to them and everything feels really modern. I like how the game sets up the title screen and there are tons of other moments in the game that are almost picturesque. Levels are really beautiful, though I wish there was a little more variety from one level to the next to give them a bit more character. Either way, the game looks absolutely fantastic and is pretty much ad-free.
Super Phantom Cat is probably my new favorite mobile platformer. I absolutely love the way the game looks, the way it plays, and the fact that you seemingly get a lot of bang for your buck since there aren’t any annoying ads or power-ups that you’re constantly asked to buy. It seems like it’s just a great free-to-play game from developers that are out there trying to make a name for themselves.
