A really impressive Warhammer game

Incredible graphics, good gameplay, responsive controls
I’ve never really had much of an opportunity to play a Warhammer game, though I’m at least familiar with the universe. Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade for Android is a really awesome on-rails shooter that really works well on mobile platforms. It doesn’t have all of the strategy involved in a typical Warhammer game, but it’s got all the visual pieces that I think will please most fans.
So, an on-rails shooter is when you don’t really control where your character is going. You might as well be a card on a roller coaster because you’re going to be taken wherever the game dictates. This frees you up so you can really focus on what matters: killing stuff. In Freeblade, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to do that, too. You’ve got light, heavy and rear attacks that are all good for different things, plus there are quicktime events that visualize the melee struggle between two mechs.
Visually, I was completely blown away by how good this game looks. As soon as I saw my mech for the first time, I just said, “Wow!” Everything looks great and the performance, at least on my phone, was really stellar. To shoot, you’ll tap and hold to drag a reticle across the screen. There is a bit of a delay when you move the reticle around, so that didn’t feel great, but once you got the swing of things it was easy to compensate for.
Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade gives you a lot of abilities to customize and upgrade your mech, and there are always new things you can equip your mech with. The only downside is that I now want a full blown mech game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe!
