Addictive gameplay, responsive controls
Slow pacing, grindy
Kickstart your career as an Uber driver in Loop Taxi for Android. This is a thrilling arcade game where you play a taxi driver that loops around three really dangerous and traffic-ridden intersections as you pick up passengers on one end and drop them off on the other.
I was really surprised by how much depth was in this otherwise simple arcade game. In my first playthrough, I actually managed to get really far because I was playing really cautiously and the game surprisingly doesn’t try to rush you into making rash decisions. This means that games do tend to run pretty long for a mobile game.
On the bottom right of your screen you can tap or hold the area in order to accelerate through the intersections. If you simply tap then you’ll drive through one intersection, but you can also just hold down your finger to continue through multiple intersections. The bottom left of the screen will apply brakes, which aren’t really needed at first.
There are a lot of traffic rules in the game. Each intersection is governed by a light. Emergency vehicles drive really fast and rush through intersections. Your taxi drives at a certain speed and can only pick up two passengers at a time, but as you play through the game and collect currency, you’ll be able to purchase new rides that will let you carry more passengers and drive faster.
I found Loop Taxi to be an incredibly dynamic arcade game, which I totally wasn’t expecting. The pacing of the gameplay could be sped up and unlocking new cars is a bit of a grind, but I found myself enjoying the game so much that I wasn’t really bothered.
