Review Woomi Wins

8.4Excellent
Great hand drawn graphics, features interactive buttons
Characters aren’t interesting, the story failed to pull me in
For the longest time, as I was playing through Woomi Wins for Android, I really had no idea what I was doing. Then I realized, this isn’t actually a game. It’s an interactive webcomic. So, if you’re looking for a game then I can assure you this isn’t it. But, if you’re looking for something weird to waste a few minutes of your time with then this might actually be the answer.
So I obviously can’t really get too specific as to what this comic is about because it’ll give away too much of the plot and there won’t be any reason for you to read it. The basic gist of it is that you are going to “play” the role of a yarn-made boy who is using a cloning machine to launch an invasion on Earth from space. It’s a tragic tale, really, because it all stems from the fact that his creator didn’t create any friends for Woomi. We’ve all been there, but not all of us have launched invasions from space because of it. Woomi is special.
The entire webcomic is drawn completely by hand, though I’m not sure I can say the same about the animation. Regardless, it has a quaint look to it that is actually kind of attention grabbing. But I believe that is mostly because of the format being used here. I mean, really, aren’t most webcomics done by hand?
Unfortunately for Woomi, I can’t really say his story was able to hold my attention for long. Everything looks great, but the story is just kind of thin. Most of it involves you pushing mundane buttons to keep things rolling, and while that is interactive, it’s not the kind of interactive that I find to be intriguing.
Ideally, I’d like to see Woomi Wins incorporate some actual divisions in its story that the player can have control over. Instead, we get a very tailored experience that isn’t bad, but isn’t what I’m looking for personally.
