Review Doodle God: 8-bit Mania Blitz

Brandon Girod
Excellent graphics, cool soundtrack, lots of puzzles
Gameplay definitely isn't for everyone
I can’t really say that I understand the allure of these alchemy-like games like Doodle God: 8-bit Blitz Mania for Android, but I can definitely pretend! This isn’t the first game with the Doodle God name in it, but this one has brand new pixel graphics and a new 8-bit soundtrack, so that’s a pretty cool change to see.
So part of the allure for games like these are the puzzle-centric nature of the gameplay, the exploration and reading through all of the various in-game text that sort of gives you a quick glimpse of the game, even though there may not necessarily be any story attached to it.
In this game you play Mother Nature and combine various elements to create brand new ones. You’ll start off with the basic ones like water, fire, earth and water. Mixing a few of them together will get you things like wind, lava and steam. Eventually you’ll unlock new elemental trees and grow your collection of elements. Obviously, the bigger your collection of elements, the longer it will take you to discover new ones because suddenly, instead of having to match pairs among four elements, you’ll have to match pairs amount 10 or more. Things can quickly get out of hand.
I don’t believe I played the original Doodle God, but the new pixel version looks really nice. Everything has been redone and it all looks great. I would have never guessed that it was another game if I hadn’t read through the description first.
I can’t say I was enthralled with the gameplay offered in Doodle God: 8-bit Blitz Mania, though. The game is completely fine, but it’s definitely not my cup of tea. That shouldn’t stop you from playing this one if it is.
