Review Hyspherical 2

Brandon Girod
Unique premise, fun gameplay, good aesthetic
Wonky controls
Preface: I haven’t played the first Hyspherical game, so Hyspherical 2 for Android is the first in the series. So what is this game? Well, it’s a game where you’re trying to juggle spheres that sort of ride these series of lines.
When you first jump into a level, you’ll see the predetermined shapes that will act as tracks for the spheres to travel on. Taping on one of the shapes will cause a sphere to spawn on that track. The idea is that you want each sphere to make one clear loop around the track without hitting any of the other spheres. This is easier said than done. Tapping on a sphere and holding it will prevent it from moving, so you can adjust things as you make them spawn.
The scaling of the gameplay ramps up pretty quickly. Just the fourth level caused me to stop and restart because I messed up the timing. Some of that has to do with the fact that the controls aren’t exactly responsive. There were times when I would tap and hold a sphere only to have it continue forward anyway - talk about frustrating.
Still, Hyspherical 2 is a really cool and unique game that I had a lot of fun with. I never really found the controls to be that frustrating, and the gameplay was actually kind of relaxing. That said, it does tend to get old, so I couldn’t really play the game for any extended period of time, but it's fun in short bursts.
