Good graphics, humorous writing, interesting gameplay
Very long tutorial, moving things in your castle can be weird
Monster Castle for Android is a strategy game that takes your typical tower defense style gameplay and sort of tips it on its head. You’ll raise an army of monsters while also building a huge tower. It’s almost like a city builder meets tower defense. Your goal is to be able to simultaneously defend your castle and wage war against greedy human invaders.
My biggest complaint in this game stems from its lengthy tutorial. There is a lot of talking and a lot of skipping around. Honestly, the systems are easy enough to learn on their own, and I frequently find myself just skipping right past the tutorials anyway.
Once you get into the game, you’ll quickly start launching your campaigns against other players and against, well, the campaign itself. In the single player mode you’ll put your own castle to the test as you sort of invite enemy A.I. into your castle. This is the best place to go to really test out how awesome your castle defenses are.
The multiplayer turns everything on its head and puts you in the attacker position. You’ll place troops and heroes where you can as you try and plunder another player’s castle. The very first time you attack another player, you’ll discard your shield which also opens your castle up to attack from enemies, so make sure that you really want to proceed before you do.
If you’re not out fighting then you’re at your castle in the builder mode. Here you can make any changes to your castle you want, build new structures and defenses, upgrading, and expanding.
Monster Castle is a really cool and well put together package. There are games out there already like this, but this is one of the best ones. Plus, it’s not a genre that is over saturated with “me too” games. Pick this one up if you’ve been looking for something to distract yourself from the typical tower defense game.
