Solid gameplay, features plenty of collectibles, non intrusive ads
No new gameplay mechanics, artwork is forgettable
Magic MixUp for Android is a match-three game that invites you on a magical journey with a character named Luna. Together you’ll collect pets, mix potions, find stickers, and make your way through this land of fairytale.
So, at this point a match-three game is a match-three game. This one is based on mixing potions together and the game places a greater emphasis on collectibles and pets. The main mechanisms of the game still revolve around matching potions together in pairs of three or more.
In the beginning of the game you’ll go through most of the levels just trying to match x amount of several potions. Eventually you’ll move on to other levels that will have you doing similar things to breaking the ice. You’ll have potions encased in some sort of substance that will require you to break those free in order to progress to the next level.
When you complete each level you’ll sometimes be prompted to go through a process that has you searching for items within bubbles you pop. The only things I ever really got were puzzle pieces that would eventually lead to me getting a new pet - in my case it was a bat. Unlocking new pets don’t really do anything, however. You’ll have new art of the pet at the top of the UI when you’re in each puzzle, but that’s about it.
Magic MixUp doesn’t really do anything new, and if anything, it can get a little annoying at times. During one level I spent about a minute after I had completed the level as I just sat there waiting for the slow animations of my leftover turns making matches. This is definitely something I wish I could just skip past. Other than that, the game is very middle of the road. It’s not a bad match-three game, but it’s not anything to write home about.
