Review FIFA 16 Soccer
It's just on the hinges of being a good football manager

Fantastic graphics, multiple play styles, lots of team customization
Confusing menus, difficult controls
Being an American, you can probably already guess that soccer isn’t really my forte. I’m not much of a sports guy to begin with, but I growing up I always loved playing soccer with friends. So take that ambivalent statement and then try to apply it to playing through FIFA 16 Ultimate Team for Android.
Here’s what I liked about the game. The graphics are really top notch. There is one game mode where you can actually play out a quick soccer game and I was amazed at how well everything ran. There is also a lot of customization when it comes to putting your team together. On this platform, this is one of the best looking football managers out there. But unfortunately, that’s where the list ends because the game is kind of a mess.
First off, let’s talk about how confusing the menus are. The first time I was left alone with the menu screen, I was overwhelmed. There were tons and tons of options and places to go with things to do - most of which were things never explained in the game.
Then there is how the game tries to organize all of your cards. There are way too many button presses to swap out cards, and there isn’t a good way to compare one card to the next. This should be the first thing that’s implemented and it’s unforgivable to be left out. Then there is the fact that I would honestly just like the ability to push a button that automatically optimizes my team for me.
Playing through a match is difficult because the controls aren’t really up to par for mobile devices. They aren’t absolutely awful, but they are difficult to dance around on in a game where speed and split second decisions are the difference between scoring and not. Fortunately you can simulate matches, but my second match into the game was against an opponent that had 30 points more than I did in every stat, and this was just the natural progression of the game.
FIFA 16 Ultimate Team is a wholly frustrating game that needs a lot of tweaks before I can recommend it to sports fans. And it’s not because I’m not a fan of the sport, it’s because it makes the entire process so cumbersome.
